Here are some behind-the-scenes photos taken by "Unstoppable" Lindsey Rae Blau during my photo shoot for Wasatch Woman Magazine's "Woman of the Year" issue.
This year's winner is Rachel Coleman of Signing Time in Salt Lake City, UT. Rachel just posted her wrap-up of the shoot on her blog and comments:
"The art director took a look at my clothing options and we decided to go with 3 different looks, since the plan was to have me on the cover and photos inside with my story. Look #1 was some stuff I just brought from home, the art director said my collar had a personality all its own, so Marcus took that as a cue to use his toupee tape and mold that collar, forcing it to follow his artistic whims.
The photographer, Michael Calanan was great. As I am SURE you can imagine, I am a pretty demanding subject, especially because I RARELY smile. "
Thanks, Rachel, you are too kind and you were a pleasure to photograph!
Here are some other shots Lindsey took:
The issue will be printed in January, until then the photos I took are embargoed but I'll see if the magazine will let me give you a sneak preview later in December. :)
Cheers!

Hey...those pics look rather familiar! Interesting...
Glad the camera treated you well!
Lindsey Blau
So you were the shooter?! Thanks so much, sorry we didn't get to talk!
Oh yes...I was the shooter. I don't know if Rachel sent you her other 'model shots' outside...but you know I have to have some kind of claim to fame. But, hey, that is PR for you...behind the scenes!
Still getting a hang on the Nikon D40, when does your review come out on the newest and great camera stuff? Did I miss it?
Can't wait to see the mag and the other shots you took!
Nice to see the photographer at work. I'm a bit proud as Calanan is my son! Proud Momma
Fabulous behind the scenes shots, and great opportunity for you Mike. I have seen Rachel a number of times on TV. Dante likes her.
Lindsey: I haven't released the D90 review but in short: If you can swing it, get it. It's a phenomenal camera, especially at that price point. Nikon has done a great job with high-ISO performance with the latest DX sensors, it'll be interesting to see what the D40/60 replacements will look like, especially if Nikon includes the same video capabilities in the lower end bodies.
Florence: Hey there! I'll let you know when the photos I shot are published. Rachel was great to work with but I must admit I hadn't heard of her or the show before the shoot.
