Gallery opening tonight (2nd opening Fri., 1 Feb 2008)

Woohoo! The photos I submitted to a local gallery's juried exhibit have been accepted and the opening is tonight in Provo, UT with a formal opening next Friday for Provo's monthly Gallery Stroll. The details of today's events follow, please stop by if you're in the area, thanks!

Gallery One Ten's Transportation Show

There will be a non-traditional opening for this show; it happens Saturday, January 26th, starting with an alternative transportation parade from the Provo Library to Gallery 110. "Here to There", a play about transportation starts at 2pm in the Library's bullock Room, then the parade starts at 3pm. This Parade is for walking, biking, skating, longboards, wagons, wheelchairs, pogosticks, any and all kinds of transportation that can move on land, besides cars and trucks. You and anyone else who would like to ride/walk are invited! The Parade ends at the Gallery, with some light refreshments from 3: 30- 5pm.

"Here to There", Provo City Library, Bullock Room (550 North University Avenue, Provo) 2pm January 26th (Also performed at BYU Nelke Theater 7:30PM Jan 25th) admission to the play is free, any donations benefit ParaTransport Services .

This show takes a different approach from most of our shows so far. Participants come from a wide range of ages and experiences. The show will change some over the time it is up as community members continue to contribute their stories, thoughts, and comments.

Other events :

Gallery Stroll is Friday, February 1st. 6-9 pm (This is like a second opening for the show, but in the evening, and with no parade)

There will be a lecture/discussion in relation to the exhibit, scheduled for February 6.
(Stay tuned for more information)

Framed

Framed, originally uploaded by calanan.

Today I framed and presented three of my drive-bys to a local (Provo, UT) gallery for a juried exhibition. The prints are 16x20, the frames are suck-ass Ikea Ribba frames, which I will never, ever, never, ever buy again.

Photowalking Salt Lake City event on studio lighting

Today I met the great folks from the Photowalking Salt Lake City group for an indoor event on using studio lighting. 70+ people attended a local Church where 8 studios were created - with models - so that experts could share their gear and expertise with those of us new to lighting. It was a wonderful event, for not only to being able to try out so many different setups but also meet to many friendly and helpful photographers.

I shot the portrait above through a ringlight, which is something I'd been looking forward to trying out as it produces such a distinctive effect. I can't swing buying the real deal right now but I'm going to try hacking together a ghetto version with a circular lighting fixture with a daylight-balanced florescent bulb.

Here are some other portraits I made with other studio gear:

Jenna

And here are a few behind-the-scenes shots of the event - the full photoset is over at my Flickr account:
