Just sharing a few portraits for a regional magazine here in Utah. There are more photos of Ann in this Flickr gallery/set.
Funny story, I met the editor while I was taking photos for my This Is Their Place portrait/interview project. She was interested in what I was doing, we exchanged business cards and the rest is history!

.i is for impetus.
Elmwood Ave
Buffalo, NY
Sigma 30mm f/1.4
While I was visiting Buffalo this past weekend I took a few drive-by shots along Elmwood Ave, a vibrant strip of shops and restaurants on Buffalo's west side. The one above was taken as I passed the Albright-Knox art museum on the north end of Elmwood in the city-proper (before it reaches North Buffalo/Kenmore).
Though my "taken while driving" project started in Buffalo, I've continued the practice here in Salt Lake City, though I don't drive nearly as much as I used to!). For reference, here's the first drive-by I took (on Allen Street near Delaware) in Buffalo that got the project rolling:
Finally, here's a link to the ongoing gallery over at Flickr, which includes a little more background on the project.
Drive safely.

Senior portraits with Karly Rae
While I was in Western New York to visit family (see my previous blog entry) I took some senior portraits with Karly Rae. Here's another sample, both taken with the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and the Nikon SB-800 speedlight, fired off-camera and through a white umbrella.
Here's a slideshow of the whole session from Flickr.
Quick trip home to Buffalo, NY
Manray and I made a quick trip home to Buffalo, NY to attend some family events, including a wedding, a baptism and even a surprise engagement (of her brother, Kevin to his girlfriend, Angeline). I have plenty of photos to upload over the coming days but the one above was taken as we landed. I'm glad we took the redeye, if only for the sweeping views of Buffalo, Grand Island, Niagara Falls and even the Canadian Niagara Peninsula!
As a complement to all that water, here's a bit of fire, in the form of a training fire set by a local volunteer fire company in Cambria, NY:

Portrait session with Kerby
At home
Salt Lake City, UT
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8
Nikon SB-800, white brolly above (fired via Nikon CLS)
I've been sick the last two two days, energy levels a bit low so I decided to work on my off-camera lighting skills with our dog, Kerby as a willing (or not - see yesterday's post) subject.
Here's another take:
Nikkor 85mm f/1.8
In both cases my Nikon SB-800 speedlight was mounted on a stand, firing through a white umbrella set to TTL mode. The Nikon D200's popup flash communicated flash intensity to the speedlight using Nikon's Creative Lighting system (CLS).

I haven't done one of these in a long time.
Here's another one, though without humans:
