Ignite Salt Lake

Yes indeed, the Schytts are a real band (photo of the presentation "Promoting your Band" by Stuart Maxfield).
Anyhoo...I sponsored the inaugural Ignite talk series on 13 November 2008 here in Salt Lake City by offering my photographic services and I had a fantastic time shooting and watching the inspiring presentations put on by the speakers.
"What is Ignite?" you say? From their web site, http://ignite.oreilly.com/:
If you had five minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Around the world geeks have been putting together Ignite nights to show their answers.
Ignite was started in Seattle in 2006 by Brady Forrest and Bre Pettis. Since then 100s of 5 minute talks have been given across the world. There are thriving Ignite communities in Seattle, Portland, Paris, and NYC.
SLC's 1st Ignite series was a great success and the coordinators are already planning Ignite Salt Lake 2 - check out their web site for info on becoming a speaker, a sponsor or attending the talks.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the evening:
Winners of the paper airplane contest, including Josh Coates of Mozy.com ("Effective Tactical Responses in a Post-Apocalyptic Environment or Zombie Defense for n00bs") and local social media wunderkind Jesse Stay ("Facebook Development in 5 minutes")
BYU's Jeremy Grimshaw ("Everything you ever wanted to know about Southeast Asian wet rice cultivation but were afraid to ask; or, why I started a Balinese music group in Provo")
Mike Moore ("Sequential Art ")

Stu Maxfield is a friend of mine from highschool! His band is awesome...have you heard of Good Morning Maxfield? It was fun seeing him in your pics - and I love your most recent baby pics. Maybe you will have to take some pics of baby Z when we come home for the holidays. You wouldn't believe how BIG he's grown - he's a character!
I shamefully admit I hadn't heard anything from his band but just played some stuff from Fictionist and Good Morning Maxfield (MySpace and YouTube), they're very good!
Let us know when you'll be here, safe travels coming back!
